Valerie Dalling

Ashford in the Water Nr Bakewell / Visual Artist/Photographer

Opening days

Saturday 26th May
Sunday 27th May
Monday 28th May

Derbyshire artist Valerie Dalling has a passion for exploring the outdoors with her camera, her focus being on the natural environment and the effects of light on colour shape and texture.

While keeping an open mind on interpretation remains key to her practice, the list of inspirational artists behind her painterly abstracts and more representational photography is endless, from Turner, Rothko and Hepworth, to Hopper, Godwin and Blakemore for example, but it’s the landscape itself which will always remain her biggest influence.

Her work is often project led and one such project is Journeys Through The Landscape, which began in 2013 and has now become a lifelong project of discovery, which has seen her recently move from the south of the county to the heart of the Peak District. Inspired by Robert Macfarlane and Celia Fiennes she continues to explore by car the rivers, the views, the people and the history behind this beautiful National Park.

She also enjoys the opportunity of working with the community, and has been involved in numerous commissions, from arts in health and schools, and in 2008 founded The Image Club, launching her first monthly photo forum. Valerie also offers coaching through visual and observational walks with the camera.
