Harpur Hill, Buxton / Pastel and Charcoal Art
Opening days
Sandra Orme is one of the UK's leading pastel artists. She has developed innovative ways of working with pastels and charcoal, which have been acknowledged at a national level as cutting-edge examples of the form.
In 2016 she has won a national art competition, The Buxton Spa Prize, exhibited with UK's best pastel artists at The Pastel Society and taught a sold out workshop at University of Oxford's Ashmolean Museum. She has also become an associate artist with the leading pastel makers - Unison Pastels and has her own range of pastels. A testament to both her beautiful art work and her recognition of her place as one of the leaders in the field of dry media.
Sandra Orme’s work explores both the ever changing landscape that surrounds her studio in the Peak District - the light, seasonal colours, atmosphere and weather - whilst capturing the relentlessly unchanging and seemingly timeless nature of stones and rock faces or high edges and outcrops.
These pieces explore this dichotomy. She says ‘I want to capture passing moments and express how it feels when walking on the edge - to recreate a sense of place. I remain fascinated by the contrast between the unchanging and the ever changing - the weather and the land.’
Her work dramatically communicates different aspects of these wild open spaces.
Most recently, she submitted four pieces to The Pastel Society Exhibition, Mall Galleries, London 2017 and had all four pieces shortlisted.
