Painter and Potter.
My watercolour landscapes explore the devision of space between the sky and the land, the fields and moorland and the ever changing light and colour.
This last year or two I've had a painter's block and have concentrated more on pottery.
For Derbyshire Open Arts this year I plan to paint some fantasy landscapes.
This will combine watercolour, nature and landscape adding a design element.
All of which I love and will, I hope, break the block and be the start of something new.
Working in stonewear, combining recycled glass in the glaze firing is my main interest.
Nature inspires the decoration of my work.
As glass reminds me of water, I am continuing to make bowls based on what floats on or is in it.
For Derbyshire Open Arts this year I plan to produce thrown functional pieces painted with designs from nature and folk art.

Matilda Simon
Matilda is a woodworker using local hardwood for interior and garden furniture, utensils, mirrors, clocks and unique woodcraft. She designs her products to exploit the colour and grain of native timbers. Inspired by the form of trees and the structural qualities of wood, furniture is designed to be strong, light and affordable. Knots, ripples twisted grain and the "spalted" patterns of ageing wood are seen as opportunities rather than flaws.
Commissions taken, often for pieces of furniture to fit particular rooms and spaces or with special carved detail or inscriptions.
Much of the timber is sourced from Manchester Treestation. This means that the raw material Matilda uses has a minimum carbon footprint: the only fossil fuels used are for felling, extraction, conversion and transport a short distance. The workshop in Marple Bridge is powered by solar panels and her research as a design academic, reduces the environmental impact of products.
Work is at The Gallery, 12, High Street, New Mills.

Film: The Seed Picker
Set in Latin America, this is a tale about a travelling herbalist who attempts to help out an awkward local situation. Events conspire to put all considered at risk from the powers that be, including the church, the usurers and the junta. The story concludes with an ending reminiscent of traditional herbal discovery folklore from the region.
It is a campaign for the validation of traditional herbal medicine. It forms part of “The Floating Medicine Show”; exhibiting throughout the UK at festivals and canal events during 2018, forming a filmic series to educate and inform the public about medical herbalism. Other herbalists are encouraged to colaborate freely using the film in their work.
This film is supported by The National Institute of Medical Herbalists.
