John Connolly

Nationally acclaimed Landscape Artist. John is drawn towards the bleakest parts of the country where his stunning use of colour and texture capture a real sense of place to create work with drama and emotion. He welcomes visit all year  to his Ormscliffe Studio Gallery.

Artists Statement.

I work mainly with acrylics, but sometimes mix media using anything and everything that is permanent, to achieve the desired effect. I use variety of found materials, making marks and interesting textures with anything at hand. I scratch, scrape and sometimes flick or throw the paint onto the canvas to create runs and dribbles that suggest waves or interesting cloud formations. In some of my larger paintings, I include collaged materials. Beach sand may be used to create an interesting texture in a landscape or to represent itself within a seascape. Dried grass, twigs, leaves and ferns have also been known to appear in my landscape paintings.

COLLECTIONS.

My work has been purchased by collectors in the UK, France, Spain, Sweden, Austria, America, Australia, New Zealand, and The Middle East .

Workshops 10am - 4pm

My workshops are suitable for both the beginner and experienced artist wishing to explore new ideas and techniques. Students will be encouraged to loosen up and use a variety of materials and techniques working in a very impressionistic style.

I specialise in acrylic and mixed media work using any water based materials on paper, board and canvas

My workshops are priced per student from £45 per day rising to £120 for personalised 1 to 1 tuition.

When visiting my studio, students should bring their own packed lunch if required.

1 to 3 - 4 £80 per day. at Ormscliffe Studio in Bolsover

1 to 8 - 15. at your venue.

If you wish John to use your venue, which reduces travelling for all your students and minimises carbon footprint, workshops cost £45 per student per day with a minimum of 8 and maximum of 15 students. (plus travelling expenses from Bolsover)

John also runs workshops at St Johns Street Gallery in Ashbourne. The cost of these 2 days courses will be £175 including 2 course lunch, plus tea and coffee throughout the day.

Demonstrations

Demonstrations are £200 plus travel expenses.

Typically, John will usually work on two paintings during a two hour demonstration but this is negotiable. The subject of the demonstration is selected from a variety of subject matter such as seascapes, landscapes, woodland, moorland and rivers. John works in acrylics during a demonstration. Like the artist, demonstrations are informative and entertaining, John does not work in silence!

One to One

£120 for the day.

Students will spend a day working with John at either the Ormscliffe studio in Bolsover, or on location (weather permitting).

Tea and coffee and biscuits will be provided throughout the day and all materials (not canvas) will be provided.

Students should provide there own packed lunch if required.
