Belper / Watercolour paintings

Opening days

Saturday 26th May
Sunday 27th May
Monday 28th May

I am a professional artist living and working in Derbyshire, England, on the doorstep of the beautiful Peak District National Park, an area which inspires much of my work.

Without a doubt, watercolour is my favourite medium, which I have used since my father bought me a beautiful box of watercolour paints during an extended stay in hospital when I was fifteen. Known for being a difficult medium to use, my approach is not to overly control the paint, but to work with its unpredictable fluidity to create fresh and spontaneous paintings, bringing the necessary detail out of the abstraction. I aim to capture the essence of the subject in a sensitive and expressive way, using vibrant washes of transparent colour to create my contemporary watercolour paintings.

I show my paintings at exhibitions across the UK and internationally, and have won numerous awards, with work held in private, corporate and public collections.
